Dressing The Part

In the next couple months I have two different speaking events, Dress for Success and Interview 101. I am not fabulous at speaking. Like I sweat much more than normal, I forget my lines and have trouble making eye contact.... Well instead of just hiding from it all I squeezed it in my 2013 goals. And well here I am accepting a couple speaking events. As nervous as I already am I am excited to talk to these young adults about how important dressing for success is.  I learned early in my career that books are judged by their covers and we have to dress the part.

I think that everyone should own a suit, yes even if you are not interviewing because 'the suit' is not only for the banker anymore.  Here is some proof on a few ways you can style a suit for any company dress code.

The Suit To Invest In
Make sure it fits. Get it hemmed and invest in a good quality one.
Business Professional.

Suit-like outfit.
Pair suit-like pieces to make this look professional & stylish.

Business Casual.

business {casual} chic
Collared shirt w/ a sweater, sweet flats and a statement color bag.

Casual Fridays (jeans allowed).

Casual Friday look.
Take casual to polished with dark wash jeans and a blazer.

Or Casual.

Casual Dress
Casual but not frumpy when you pair a chunky sweater and boots with a tailored dress.

Suit rules are as follows: Invest in good quality and make sure it fits. Not too tight, not too loose, not too trendy and a fit for your body type.

Hope you had a great weekend and that you are having a fabulous Monday. I am home battling the flu & Monday blues hoping that I wake up tomorrow miraculously better.

  1. Thanks for this! I always have such trouble because I'm in such a casual location (Vermont? Fashion?) but in a professional position. These ideas are soooo helpful! xoxox

    1. Glad this helped! It is sooo easy to fall into an outfit rut (especially in this cold weather) but dressing the part is your best way to feel put together/confident and also look it too. Hope your loving the new gig!
